Ojo Caliente is one of the oldest natural hot springs in the state of New Mexico and the American Southwest, dating from before 1534 which is only, of course, when the Spanish Conquistador Cabeza de Vaca “discovered” them. Ancestral Puebloan peoples visited them for many years, perhaps centuries, prior.
We have known about these springs since my wife first visited them with an old friend in the 1970s. They have since been developed into a destination resort with lodging and a fine dining restaurant offering refined New Mexican cuisine.
